"How do you know you're not dead?" Nayuta asks, a little stubbornly. One might even say, obnoxiously. "People die in their sleep all the time. Even if they're young and healthy. Humans die suuuper-easily. Like, what if you had an aneurysm, or a seizure and you choked on your own vomit? Or what if someone stabbed you in your sleep? Huh?"

Except she doesn't really believe all that. She just wants to make the point, is all. With it made to her satisfaction, she moves on with the unacknowledged fact that he's probably right.

"We're obviously not in the human world, anyway. If you explore some of the floors of Penumbra Place, you start to see that this place can't be real. There's not even always the same number of stairs between floors, and I'm pretty sure you couldn't power buildings like this without a lot of... stuff intact, like power-lines and pipes and... stuff." She doesn't actually know enough about infrastructure to know whether it's possible, or that the word for infrastructure is "infrastructure," but she feels pretty confident that she knows enough.

"There's food and power because it'll keep us alive and fresh for when it comes time to eat us, probably." Nayuta puts her forefinger on her bottom lip, thinking. "Maybe it's the Storm Devil? I remember dreaming about a storm before I woke up here. Storms are pretty scary, a devil like that could be powerful enough to create a little world for its prey."

Her tone is neither frightened nor intentionally frightening. She's as matter-of-fact as if this were an everyday topic.
